Wellington's Highlights: Gracie Elite

Hey everybody. Welcome back to another episode of Wellington’s Highlights. I’m Shayna Lurie with Keller Williams Wellington, I’m Sommar Clark with Keller Williams.

I’m David Rosenthal with USA Mortgage.

And we are here today at Gracie Elite with the owner Eric. So Eric, thanks for having us.

Thanks for coming.

Tell us a little bit about Jiu-Jitsu and how it’s different from other forms of Martial Art. Most martial arts focus on the standup aspect, right? Of fighting, punching, kicking, things like that. And our aim and Jiu-Jitsu is to neutralize those strikes, get close to our opponent, take them to the ground, dominate them positionally, and then ultimately submit them. Or we just hold them down until help comes. Oh, yeah. In the beginning, it can be a little intimidating, but you know, once you get the hang of it and you start to learn the positions, it becomes a lot less scary.

So, Eric, there are a lot of families here in Wellington. So tell us, you know, what you offer for kids of all ages.

Okay. Yeah. For the kids, we have, um, two types of classes. We have little kids from four to seven years old. It’s primarily focused on fundamental moves in Jiu-Jitsu. So when they move to the bigger kids’ class, they can learn the actual techniques and a mini version of the adult class. So the program really starts at four years old and you can follow it and transition all the way to the adult class if you stick with

It. So the name of the academy is Gracie Elite. Are you Gracie or tell us a little bit more?

I was trained by Mauricio Velardo, who is a black belt underneath Hill and Gracie. The Gracie family is Jiu-Jitsu. They’re the ones that brought it here to America, back in the nineties. They’re the ones that popularized it through the UFC and things like that and put it on the world stage. It’s really cool to be a part of that, to, to be a part of that legacy and carry on the tradition of those guys. Um, especially not being a Gracie myself.

For anyone who’s interested in taking a class, where can they find you?

There are a few different places to find us. Okay. The easiest place is probably social media. So you can go on, uh, Instagram, Gracie elite Wellington. Okay. Facebook. Okay. Gracie elite Wellington. The website is wellingtonjiujitsu.com. We’re also located off of South Shore in the plaza right next to CR Chicks.

Eric, thanks for having us at your academy. Thanks. Appreciate it. Thanks for joining us for another episode of Wellington’s Highlights. I’m David with USA Mortgage, I’m Sommar Clark with Keller Williams and I’m Shayna Lurie with Keller Williams. See you next time.

Bye guys.
